Goal here, by the way, there are a lot of interesting people working on a lot of really good people working on this, and EF is working on this. We also want we just wanna bias towards action. Right? I don't wanna spend a year writing the absolute best spec and then another year implementing that because I think so much is here today. I wanna I wanna say, hey. This is what works today. We're building this right now, which is what we're doing. And we can continue to analyze it and continue to improve it, and I wanna be in all those conversations and calls. And if in a year or two, we have someth

Today, I'm joined by Steven Goldfader, the cofounder and CEO of Ofchain Labs. Thanks for coming on the show, Steven. Great
to be here. Thanks for having me.
I think we should probably our becomes massive, and everybody knows about you guys. So I think I'll try and keep it as focused as possible. And I wanna talk about time boost, interoperability, and where Arbitrum stands today. But before we get started, it might be a bit helpful to get a short overview of what you guys have been working at, off chain labs over the past few months.
Absolutely. So I would say there are broadly three pillars. So, we obviously continue to contribute heavily to arbitrium and arbitrium development. Some of the biggest new tactical development, developments there are arbitrum stylists, which gives developers the ability to write smart contracts in Rust and c and c plus plus, right alongside and fully interoperable with EVM. So you can have, say, a single application that's, a mixture of, you know, Solidity slash EVM and and stylists code. Number two is Bold. This recently shipped on main net. This, was the is the new challenge protocol, which
I wanna talk about all of those, but I think the main thing, to get us started would be time boost. Can you walk us through what the Time Boost, upgrade will be the proposal is and what exactly it wants to achieve? We Yes.
And by the way, it's it's, it's well timed because this this just went on live, went live on Cali, which is the on chain voting platform. So it's, you know, being actively voted on in the DAO in the final stages now. Right? So it started off a snapshot, get approved, and now it's actually in the on chain voting process. So definitely a very timely time to discuss this. It's something that DAO is weighing right now. And yeah. So what time boost is, you know, it's funny because you actually take a step back. There's always been this push that says, decentralize the sequencer. And I'm a big fan o
And with time boost, as far as that it sounds so since there's a private mempool, you can't do front running, but you can still, do liquidations because you have the knowledge of after the block. So for the next block, I can include, healthy MEV like back running as well as, like, liquidating landing positions, etcetera. Right? Correct? Exactly.
So yes. The way we like to think about it is there's different types of MEV. We think front running is, you know, the bad type of MEV, one that we think should be, eliminated to the extent possible. And then there's, like, back running, which basically says, like, you know, hey. I see a transaction here. I
