Privacy Policy

How Barbell handles data

Effective date: March 9, 2026. This policy explains what information Barbell Insights collects, how it is used, which third parties help us run the product, and how to contact us about privacy requests.

Information we collect

We collect account details such as your email address, authentication identifiers, and subscription tier information when you create an account or upgrade.

We collect product usage data needed to operate the service, including followed entities, source subscriptions, alert settings, search and page activity, and requests made through the app.

We also process podcast metadata, transcripts, summaries, and derived entity research tied to the feeds you browse or connect.

How we use information

We use information to operate Barbell Insights, authenticate users, process payments, send account and product emails, deliver alerts, improve ranking and research quality, and protect the service from abuse.

We may also use aggregated or de-identified usage patterns to improve the product, measure reliability, and understand feature adoption.

Third-party services

We rely on third-party providers to run the service, including Better Auth for authentication flows, Stripe for billing, PostHog for analytics, Deepgram for transcription, and infrastructure providers such as AWS.

These providers process data on our behalf for the limited purpose of operating the service. Their handling of data is also governed by their own privacy policies.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and local storage for session management, authentication continuity, preferences, and measurement of product usage.

If you block required cookies, some parts of Barbell may not function correctly, including sign-in and paid account flows.

Data retention

We retain account records, alert configuration, billing records, and operational logs for as long as necessary to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Private feed metadata and derived research may remain in backups or logs for a limited period after deletion requests while those systems rotate out.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with service providers, where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer.

Public podcast metadata and publicly visible research pages may be indexed by search engines and AI crawlers according to our published crawler directives.

Your choices and rights

You can update account details, billing settings, and alert preferences from within the product where those controls are available.

For access, deletion, correction, or privacy-related requests, email support@barbellinsights.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
