Saurabh: Hi. This is the Deco podcast, and I'm your host, Saurabh. Before we begin, views expressed here are personal opinions. None of this is any kind of advice, let alone financial or legal. It's a conversation about things we find interesting.
Welcome to episode 13. I'm joined by Sid, and our guest today is Jin Chao. He's the founder of No Limit Holdings. He's also an independent board member of Finance US and former strategy officer of finance. During his tenure at Binance, Jain led the Binance Labs, Binance Launchpad, Binance X, m and a teams, among other roles.
Welcome to the show, Jin.
Gin: Thank you, Saurabh and Sid. Thanks for having me.
Saurabh: Yeah. I mean, we rarely talk to someone who has this kind of a rich history in crypto markets. Will you be kind enough to walk us through your experience?
Gin: Sure. I can go pretty far back, or I can just start with crypto. I am fairly long in the tooth for the typical crypto guy. I believe I started my career back in the nineties and, in the US. Probably most relevant, I'll start with after business school in the late nineties.
I moved to San Francisco and did Internet investment banking back in the web 1 days with clients like Yahoo and Google, and then moved into private equity for a number of years before the global financial crisis hit in 2008. At that point, I moved to Asia. My parents had retired in Shanghai in 2004. I had been coming back every year and seen just explosive development happening in China and, felt it was a a great time to pivot my career to Asia. I landed in Shanghai with a position in 2009, And, my first few years were still fairly traditional.
I was doing corporate development for a number of multinationals, including Dell, Asia Pacific, and then recruited to the NBA. But during that time, I was fortunate enough when I landed in Shanghai to look for guys to play poker and basketball with. That's my normal routine when I land in a new city, find, new people to connect with through those hobbies, and was fortunate enough to get involved in a poker game that included a lot of very, very early influential figures in in crypto and, learned about crypto during that time. And that's why, actually, our investment firm is called No Limit Hol
But CZ was part of that, and, we began our crypto journey around the same time. And, he eventually went full time into crypto in 2013 when he moved to Beijing. And it just so happened at that time I got recruited to work for the MBA in China. So we both moved to Beijing around that time. I continued on doing corporate development.
