Saurabh: Hi. This is the Deco podcast, and I'm your host, Saurabh. Before we begin, views expressed here are personal opinions. None of this is any kind of advice, let alone financial or legal. It's a conversation about things we find interesting.
Hello, and welcome to episode 16. Joel is my cohost, and we are joined by Steve from DoraHacks. DoraHacks is a pioneer in hacker movement. Through this conversation, we'll explore the evolution of hackathons and the challenges faced by decentralized governance in general and outdoor.t is trying to tackle those challenges. From the early days of blockchain adoption to the current state of decentralized decision making, Steve shares insights on how Dora Access take a part in shaping on chain governance and developer ecosystems.
Steve, welcome to the show. Yeah. Thanks for having me. So, Steve, we'll start with your journey as to how you ended up here. And then we'll talk about all the good things like LoRa hacks, LoRa Factory, quadratic voting, and all the fun stuff that we wanna talk about.
So let's start with what you were doing prior to web 3, how you ended up here.
Steve: Yeah. It's actually a very interesting story. By the end of 2017, early 2018, I run across the door hacks team. Back then, it was almost 7, 8 years ago. Actually, like, coming from business slash aspiring, like, law school candidate, I didn't knew much.
I didn't know much about frontier technology together with crypto blockchain. And then what Doorhacks was doing was really fascinating. So I went to the 1st hackathon that Doorhacks hosted, and then they invited me to actually host a hackathon with them. And then I was invited to join the core team. And since then, Doorhacks has grew from a small hacker organization.
They're really focused on curating hackathons in frontier space. Back then, it was AI, IoT, blockchain, the 3 most important tech stacks. I would say 8 years ago till today, we're looking to still, like, crypto and blockchain, the most open source tax stack among all of the frontier tax, but also a little bit of quantum software and a little bit of virtual space engineering, etcetera. So Dora also grew from a small, I will say, hackathon community till today. In the past 6 months, there's more than 5 seldom web 3 startups.
We call them buildos on our platform. They're registered on the DoorHacks platform, participate in different hackathons, participated in ton hackathons, and just grow hackathons, app tools hackathons, making Dora one of the largest, also one of the fastest growing web through startup platform. So it's been quite a journey growing Dura from a small hackathon, I would say, like, interest community of a very small community till today. It's a global hacker movement. There's approximately, I would say, 150,000 developers dealing actively in different ecosystems on Door Hacks on a daily basis.
And, throughout this journey, we talk to developers, find out what's most fascinated that they are very interested about. Also, find out about the pain points that they have, which is often related to fundraising, often related to governing their treasury after they actually raised money, and govern their community after they have a decentralized project. And we realized there's this lack of tooling, lack of infrastructure. And also, there's some fascinating advanced technology that essentially are a lot, like, very much aligned with the interest that we have to better support developer, inclu
