Welcome to the Deco podcast, where we bring you stories from founders and investors in Web 3. Before we get started, this is not a financial or legal advice. It's just a conversation about things we find interesting in Web 3. Views expressed are our own personal opinions. The co members or guests appearing on the show may have positions on assets they talk about. Alright. Welcome to the latest episode. I have with me Weber, who's the cofounder of socket protocol, trying to make chain abstraction a reality, if I may say so. Weber, welcome to the show. Thank
you so much, Sala, for having me. Big, big fan of the work that you guys have been doing. I've been, like, seeing you guys since day 1, and very excited to sort of, like, continue collaborating.
Awesome. Thanks a lot, man. I think you know Sid from Matic days. Right?
Oh, yeah. Like, Sid and I, we go way, way back early Matic, Polygon days. We were in that initial 10 people group. We grinded together a lot for a couple of years. We lived in the same apartment and stuff like that. So, yeah, pretty close to that guy.
Awesome. What do you think the end game for chain abstraction looks like from a user point of view?
Again, this is like a moving hypothesis. Right? As things in the world change, things sort of change in my head as well. I can probably, like, share about how I think about things right now, and probably, like, 2 months down the drain, it'll be something. But I think the there is no reason for a user or anyone interacting with the entire team space to consider Solana, Ethereum, and sort of like, create all these things. Of course, these are different platforms, but users want access to assets. Users don't necessarily care about the underlying platform itself. Right? Now the platform has certai
Yeah. How far are we from the place where AI agents interact on, say, on behalf of users? Like, ballpark. Like, how do you think that happens? When do you think that happens?
The reason why this AI centered future is better than the current one is because this agent can have a lot of your personal context. It's almost like having an assistant who is doing interactions for you. Right? So this this guy has a lot of context with his local, with his private, which is not shared with or, like, hosted by AWS or Google or something like that. So you can, like, consider it your own and interact it via that service. I think we should see some people sort of, like, play around with this stuff soon. I would say to be actually in production where all, like, a bunch of people a
Yeah. I think in 2021, people did not think that z k roll up would go live or whenever that went live for the first time. We were still thinking it might be, like, 3 years or 4 years away, but Yeah. It happened. Not in the form that people would have liked probably, but in whatever form it came to be. Right? With that, I think we should talk about the first CK roll up that you talk about when you guys were building sometime in 2019, if I'm not wrong. Yeah. That What was that story? And from there onwards, like, how did you land that key in abstraction as an idea? And how did you guys start bui
