Speaker 0: Welcome to the new episode of the TCO podcast. I'm Saurabh, and Joel has joined me as a cohost today. We are gonna talk to Ivan who's deeply integrated into DeFi. Fair to say that he is what we call a true DeFi DJ. We will talk about a range of issues like communities, narratives, and their life cycle, investing new DeFi primitives like Carebox, and where DeFi as a sector is headed.
As usual, views expressed here are our own and don't reflect the views of any organization we belong to. We are not financial advisers. Let's take in. Hey, Joel. Since you've known Ivan for a long time, why don't you introduce him?
Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. We have Ivan from Knobsdau here with us today. I've been hanging out in his community named Knobsdau for quite a few years. He has been also a co contributor with me at Gearbox. We've known each other for a few years, and he's graced us with his presence to talk about all things, DeFi community, and what's going on
Speaker 2: in the industry today. So good to have you here, Ivan. Hi, sir. Thank you for your liking me.
Speaker 1: You know, let's just start with a brief background of yourself. Right? Like, how did you end up in crypto? What's the story?
Speaker 2: Yeah. So before I joined crypto, I was just studying actually law similar to how Stadia was doing it. Apparently, many people in crypto for some weird reason, well, being in the cup of poker or finance, which makes sense. Right? Or they're developers, or for some reason, they did law.
Probably, the reason why people switch from law is because they understand how miserable it is to be a lawyer. So that was kind of my realization. I wanted to something a bit more dynamic, interesting, and got into training slash learning about finance tech at university. But, basically, got into crypto as many people on the way 2017 when everything was going up. I was watching my fellow theatres back then.
Well, writing is a strong word, more like copying from Wikipedia. I keep looking at Wikipedia in the references though, so there was no plagiarism, I hope, I think. And yeah, everything was started going up and I just got a couple of assets. I thought, wow. And the most amazing investor ever.
You know this meme where 3 little children are sitting together and saying, I'm a bigoted BlackRock. I make 300, year to date, right, percentage gains. Well, same thing in my case. So I got into it. Then, obviously, couple of hours down the line, I was right.
