The big unlock with Xero is that everything is part of the same system. It's all owned by the same chain. There is no separate entity that's deploying a layer two or or owning the VA or or owning any part of the stack. The whole stack is one unified blockchain.

Welcome back, everyone, to Empire. I'm really excited to have this pod. I was with Brian and the Layer Zero team last week in Europe where they announced Zero. I've known about this coming for a while. When I first heard the pitch, I was blown away. I mean, I I've been in the space long enough so that my my you know, what really excites me is the bar's higher now. But when I had that conversation, Brian came to me, I was I was generally blown away as someone that is now trying to build and bring businesses on chain. I think it just opened up my mind. So, Roz, Brian, welcome to the show. I'll l
Thanks so much for having us. Quick intro, Brian Pellegrino, cofounder and the CEO of LayerZero Labs. And Raz?
Yeah. I'm Raz, cofounder and CTO of LayerZero Labs.
Awesome. Well, guys, why don't we get started? You announced Zero last week. I think the reception of that was pretty amazing. I was in the room. We were with Citadels of the world, your existing investors, which is probably the most non crypto set of investors, Sequoia and PayPal and a bunch of other folks. Give us the origin story and the thesis behind building Xero. What was the initial conception and what was going into Xero? What gap did you see focusing on from the messaging layer that you said, okay, we need to need to build the more foundational piece here, which is Xero. Walk us throu
Yeah, I think one thing, obviously, sat in the middle and continue to sit in the middle of all the different chains, all the different architectures. I don't know that there's another group in the world who's gone as deep in every different VM and architecture as we have. Because when we build a new endpoint on Solana, have to rewrite it from scratch with the SVM and we have to figure out how you deal with dynamic dispatch and memory, all of these different things that go into it. And then when you build on TON, you have to figure out how TON deals with sharding and what that looks like. And s
Roz, before I go to you, just for zooming out a little bit in context, you built what I think, objectively, I think the most widely adopted messaging protocol across crypto. You start off saying, look, there's going to be a plethora of chains. Let's connect them all. And there needs to be a common connective tissue. So I actually, in my journey of building inversion, your guys are one of the first ones I called. Because from my perspective, I care about onboarding users. So I care less of, if I'm going to tap into different ecosystems, I got to make sure that the end customer, the user, doesn'
Yeah. So, one thing that we've learned that I think is very interesting is, I mean, we work super closely with a bunch of chains. There are a couple of chains that we've just gone very, very deep with. We've done a ton with Arbitrone, we've done a ton with all of these different environments that we've worked in developing native solutions for developers. There's a bunch of chains that we are clo
